Samyaza
Biography
Samyaza is a Grigori, former leader of the Guardians, founder of Galdir, and the second Celestial to accept the power of the Darkness. Created to protect humanity, he grew to resent a life of service and persuaded his brethren to abandon the Celestial Kingdom in pursuit of freedom.
When judgment descended upon the Fallen, Samyaza betrayed his brother Azazel and allowed him to bear responsibility for the rebellion. He returned to Kolob, secretly nursing his hatred while building a hidden empire of human worshippers and mages. Through false promises of redemption, he consumed the souls delivered by his followers and grew far more powerful than the Celestial he had once been.
Guided by Nyx, Samyaza steals the Khaliq-Mudmira and attempts to release Typhon upon the world. What begins as vengeance against the Kingdom evolves into a desire to claim the power of creation, elevate himself above the gods, and reshape the multiverse according to his will.

Samyaza built a religious following that worshipped him as a god without understanding his true nature or celestial origin.
What he is
Samyaza is a Grigori, an eternal Celestial created by S’Rasta in the Celestial Kingdom of Kolob. He was born in 2548 BC and appointed leader of the Guardians, an elite order of fire-winged Celestials assigned to protect humanity from Malfiens and other supernatural threats.
He possesses the intrinsic abilities and resistances of a Celestial but has grown considerably more powerful through centuries of study, the influence of the Darkness, and the consumption of human souls.
Samyaza is the second Celestial to accept the power of the Darkness. Rather than viewing this transformation as corruption, he considers himself reborn and superior to the Celestial he had been.
He is also the founder of Galdir, a system of dark supernatural arts developed from the knowledge and power he shared with his human disciples.
Natural appearance
Samyaza is an enormous, stone-skinned Celestial standing more than twice the height of an ordinary human. He possesses long, snow-white hair that glows and flows around him even in the absence of wind.
His eyes radiate intense white light, while a warm aura surrounds his body and illuminates the area around him. Before his complete submission to the Darkness, this radiant aura is strong enough to drive away nearby shadows.
Samyaza carries himself with a graceful, almost poetic stride. He holds his head high with an air of royalty and moves as though the world around him exists beneath his station.
Within his palace, he commonly wears a long white robe that hangs loosely from his shoulders and barely touches the floor. He walks barefoot while his garments and hair float behind him.
During battle, Samyaza wears nearly impenetrable Celestial armor and wields an enormous holy sword. His stone-like skin remains vulnerable at the exposed spaces between the armor’s plates.

Samyaza was naturally stronger and faster than Azazel even before accepting the power of the Darkness. The energy granted by Nyx and the countless souls he consumed eventually increased his abilities far beyond their original limits.
Celestial physiology and endurance
As a Grigori, Samyaza is eternal and possesses a body designed to survive extreme cosmic environments.
He does not require sleep or food and is naturally resistant to physical trauma, supernatural heat, fire, and environmental extremes. He can move through hell-flame without injury and is capable of enduring the lava surrounding Typhon’s prison.
His stone-like body is tremendously resilient. Even the combined efforts of Azazel, Athalon, Syn, and Zayne fail to keep him down permanently.
Samyaza’s armor provides additional protection, but it is not completely without openings. His body can still be injured through the exposed spaces between its plates.
Supernatural strength and speed
Samyaza possesses extraordinary strength and speed, even by Grigori standards. He was naturally stronger and faster than Azazel before accepting power from the Darkness or strengthening himself through consumed souls.
His power is most clearly demonstrated when the Celestial army arrives to arrest him. Samyaza refuses to surrender and kills two Sentinels before the combined might of the remaining Sentinels finally subdues him.
His ability to defeat members of the Celestial Kingdom’s elite warrior class demonstrates the exceptional power and combat ability that distinguished him as leader of the Grigori.
Flight
Samyaza possesses the fiery wings intrinsic to the Grigori and can travel through the air at extreme speed.
His wings are not described in the same visual detail as Azazel’s, but his position among the fire-winged Guardians establishes their presence.
Teleportation and portals
Samyaza can teleport and create gateways between distant locations and realms.
He can open small portals through which objects are transported and can vanish from a location without leaving a physical trail.
Wendell uses ritual gateways to summon Samyaza and communicate with him across realms. Samyaza emerges through these portals to receive sacrifices, issue commands, and collect objects delivered by his followers.
Celestial sword
Samyaza wields an enormous Celestial sword summoned through his celestial power. The weapon burns with holy fire and serves as his primary weapon during supernatural combat.
Celestial armor
Samyaza wears a powerful suit of Celestial armor during the battle at Typhon’s seal.
The armor is nearly impenetrable and withstands sustained attacks from several supernatural opponents. Its primary vulnerabilities are the narrow spaces between its plates, where Samyaza’s stone-like body remains exposed.
The armor can absorb intense thermal and supernatural energy. When struck by a concentrated Galdirien attack, it glows as hot as lava while Samyaza’s body erupts in a fiery aura.
Only an attack empowered by the Khaliq-Mudmira demonstrates enough force to shatter its outer layer.
Soul manipulation and consumption
Samyaza can separate a human soul into fragments, condense its essence, and absorb its power.
Wendell delivers murdered victims to Samyaza under the false promise that their souls will be purified. Samyaza separates each soul into hundreds of glowing orbs and draws them together into a concentrated sphere.
The souls are not made whole or redeemed. Samyaza consumes their essence to increase his own vitality and strength.
Each absorbed soul makes him more powerful. By the time he confronts Azazel, the combined strength granted by the Darkness and countless human souls makes him nearly impossible to subdue.

When Wendell delivers a soul, Samyaza transfers energy into him. Wendell’s wrinkles and age spots fade, his skin becomes fuller, and approximately twenty years of physical age are restored.
Wendell claims to have survived for many generations because each blessing from Samyaza adds another lifetime of vitality.
Samyaza also distributes knowledge and power among his followers. These teachings ultimately become the foundation of Galdir.
Galdir
Samyaza is the founder of Galdir, a system of dark supernatural arts practiced by generations of human mages.
After establishing his empire on Earth, Samyaza shared portions of his knowledge and power with selected followers. These disciples recorded his teachings as sacred material and became known as the forefathers of Galdir.

Samyaza’s Galdirien followers regard him as their divine master and believe their magic is proof of his godhood.
Power of the Darkness
Samyaza is the second Celestial to accept power directly from the Darkness.
Nyx does not create the resentment within him. She recognizes and cultivates what is already present: his dissatisfaction with servitude, resentment toward humanity, fear of appearing weak, desire for freedom, and belief that he deserves greater authority.
Her power augments Samyaza beyond the natural limits of his creation. Edoicuna recognizes that Samyaza has become more powerful than S’Rasta originally made him.
Samyaza rejects the description of being tainted. He considers his transformation a rebirth and believes the power of Nyx has liberated him from the limitations imposed by the Celestial Kingdom.
Meteoric attack
Samyaza can manipulate atmospheric forces and summon stone from beyond the immediate battlefield.
During the final confrontation, he raises his hand and parts the clouds before calling down a shower of jagged interstellar stone. The incoming rocks ignite while passing through the atmosphere and strike with enough force to shake the Earth, ignite the surrounding area, and threaten multiple supernatural opponents simultaneously.
Athalon uses the power of the Khaliq-Mudmira to unmake the meteorites before they can strike Azazel and Zayne.

Samyaza’s allegiance changes repeatedly throughout his life. He serves the Celestial Kingdom, leads the Grigori into rebellion, betrays them to preserve himself, returns to the Kingdom as a retainer, and eventually joins the Darkness in a campaign of vengeance.
Connections
S’Rasta: S’Rasta is Samyaza’s creator and the authority under whom the Guardians originally served.
Samyaza becomes increasingly resentful of living as a servant. Nyx encourages him to view S’Rasta as imperfect and to question why he should serve when he could instead be worshipped.
Samyaza ultimately turns against S’Rasta, the Celestial Kingdom, and everything created by the light.
Azazel: Azazel is Samyaza’s brother and one of the Guardians who followed him during the rebellion.
Azazel confides in Samyaza after falling in love with Celine and discovering the powerful emotions possible through relationships with humanity. Samyaza becomes intrigued and begins pursuing mortal experiences for himself.
Samyaza later gathers the Guardians upon Mount Hermon and persuades them to form a pact abandoning their service to the Kingdom.
When the Celestial Warriors descend upon them, Samyaza fears being defeated and turns against his brethren to protect himself. He places responsibility for the rebellion upon Azazel and delivers him to the Kingdom as its instigator.
Samyaza later claims that blaming Azazel prevented his execution and that he always intended to release him once the Kingdom had fallen. Azazel considers captivity worse than death and rejects the justification.
Their conflict culminates at Typhon’s seal. Samyaza attempts to persuade Azazel to join him and offers him a world of his own to rule. Azazel refuses, and the brothers fight.
Although Azazel and his allies attack him together, Samyaza repeatedly rises until the Celestial army and its Sentinels arrive to subdue him.
The Grigori: Samyaza was the leader of the Grigori and Guardians.
He exploited their dissatisfaction and curiosity to persuade them to abandon their positions. His decision contributed to the chaos that spread across Earth and brought the Celestial Warriors against them.
When judgment came, Samyaza betrayed his followers and allowed Azazel to carry the blame. Many Grigori and their families were killed, while the surviving Fallen were stripped of their power and imprisoned.
The Darkness: Nyx first approaches Samyaza while he is still serving as a Guardian. She recognizes his dissatisfaction and encourages him to question why he should remain a servant.
Samyaza initially rejects her and threatens her with his sword. Her words nevertheless remain with him and encourage his desire to be worshipped.
After the fall, Nyx returns when Samyaza is consumed by hatred for the Kingdom. She offers him the power and means to exact vengeance by releasing Typhon.
Samyaza accepts her power, joins her cause, and attempts to retrieve the Khaliq-Mudmira for her. He believes she has opened his eyes and freed him from celestial servitude.
Azazel warns that Nyx is manipulating him because she cannot enter Kolob or create anything herself. Samyaza briefly recognizes the possibility but decides that obtaining the power of the book will make the danger irrelevant.
Wendell J. Paxton: Wendell is Samyaza’s Arch Magus, servant, recruiter, and supplier of human souls.
Samyaza exploits Wendell’s obsession with purging wickedness. He convinces him that ritual murder redeems the souls of supposedly unclean people.
Wendell delivers his victims to Samyaza, believing they will be purified. Samyaza instead consumes their souls and rewards Wendell with youth, vitality, and supernatural power.
Wendell oversees Samyaza’s Galdirien followers, attempts to open the Khaliq-Mudmira, and transports the book to Typhon’s seal.
Samyaza promises Wendell a place in the world to come, but nothing confirms that he genuinely intends to honor that promise.
Tef’Lon: Tef’Lon is Samyaza’s Malfien enforcer and accomplice.
Samyaza brings Tef’Lon into Kolob, where the nearly invulnerable Malfien devastates the Celestial forces. While the defenders struggle against Tef’Lon, Samyaza enters the palace and attacks the Elders.
Tef’Lon’s assault allows Samyaza to reach the sacred hall and steal the Khaliq-Mudmira.
Their alliance is practical rather than affectionate. Tef’Lon provides the raw physical force necessary to occupy the Kingdom’s defenders while Samyaza pursues his larger objective.
Edoicuna: Edoicuna confronts Samyaza after the Khaliq-Mudmira opens and sends a beacon across the stars.
Edoicuna recognizes that Samyaza’s abilities have been augmented by a power beyond S’Rasta. He becomes concerned that absorbing the book could elevate Samyaza to a level comparable to S’Rasta.
Edoicuna considers Samyaza guilty of high treason and numerous crimes against the Kingdom. He prepares to strike Samyaza from existence but is interrupted by Guar’s arrival.
Athalon Klamath: Athalon becomes central to Samyaza’s plan when his blood opens the Khaliq-Mudmira.
Samyaza initially views Athalon as an insignificant mortal. During their battle, he is perplexed by Athalon’s refusal to surrender despite facing certain death.
Samyaza beats Athalon until he appears dead, then retrieves the Tears of Hades and returns to Typhon’s seal.
Athalon is restored through the intervention of the Fates and returns carrying power released from pages of the Khaliq-Mudmira. That power allows him to damage Samyaza’s armor, counter his meteoric attack, and help Azazel bring him down.
Zayne Dubois D’Entremonte: Zayne joins the effort to prevent Samyaza from releasing Typhon.
Samyaza initially dismisses him as a lesser supernatural being, but Zayne’s speed, hunter training, Galdir, and ability to identify gaps in Celestial armor allow him to injure Samyaza repeatedly.
Samyaza leaves Zayne critically wounded during the final battle.
Syn Darkmatter: Syn fights beside Athalon, Azazel, and Zayne against Samyaza.
Despite suffering catastrophic damage, Syn continues fighting and uses his energy weapons to help weaken Samyaza’s defenses.
Samyaza eventually leaves Syn severely damaged during the conflict.
Typhon: Samyaza intends to release Typhon and use him as a weapon against the Celestial Kingdom, the gods, and the rest of creation.
Nyx tells Samyaza that the Khaliq-Mudmira contains spells capable of controlling the monster. Samyaza accepts this claim without understanding the book’s actual purpose.
After Azazel reveals that the Khaliq-Mudmira creates and destroys rather than controls, Samyaza abandons the original plan of merely commanding Typhon. He decides to assimilate the book’s power, elevate himself to the level of the Creators, and reshape the multiverse according to his own will.
Connection to the Khaliq-Mudmira
Samyaza steals the Khaliq-Mudmira from the sacred hall in Kolob under the direction of the Darkness.
He attacks the Elders guarding it and causes most of them to vanish with a wave of his hand. He then tears the book from the surviving Elder entrusted with protecting it.
Samyaza does not understand the inscriptions on the binding, the method required to open it, or its true purpose. He gives it to Wendell and orders his Galdirien followers to unlock it.
Athalon’s blood eventually opens the book. Edoicuna responds to the beacon it releases and reclaims it, but several pages are torn free and remain in Samyaza’s possession.
Samyaza initially believes the book will allow him to control Typhon. Once he learns that it contains creative and destructive power, his ambition expands. He intends to absorb its power, become a supreme god, and reconstruct the multiverse according to his desires.
The pages reject his attempt at control and release their power into Athalon instead.
The release of Typhon
Samyaza and the Darkness develop a plan to release Typhon during the third hour of a blood moon.
The seals require:
The mercurial blood of a Guardian
Ichor from a Greek god or goddess
Three gemstones called the Tears of Hades
Nyx suggests that the death of Persephone would bring Hades enough grief to produce the required tears. Persephone later falls, while Hades disappears.
Samyaza carries the Tears of Hades to the seal beneath Mount Etna and begins inserting them while reciting prophetic passages.
He believes the Khaliq-Mudmira will allow him to control Typhon after the creature is released. His plan fails when Athalon, Azazel, Zayne, Syn, and the arriving Celestial forces delay him beyond the required hour.
Personality and behavior
Samyaza is proud, ambitious, manipulative, resentful, intelligent, patient, and deeply afraid of appearing powerless.
He originally performs his duties for centuries but feels trapped by a life he never chose. His dissatisfaction makes him vulnerable to Nyx, who appeals to his pride and desire for recognition.
Samyaza’s greatest weakness is his inability to accept inferiority. He cannot bear being defeated, embarrassed, controlled, or viewed as weak.
During the fall, he values his reputation and survival above loyalty. Rather than stand beside the Grigori he led into rebellion, he blames Azazel and returns to the Kingdom.
His cowardice becomes a source of lasting shame. Instead of accepting responsibility, he redirects that shame into hatred of the Kingdom and an obsessive pursuit of enough power to ensure that he can never be helpless again.
Samyaza is highly manipulative. He presents himself to his followers as a visible and generous god while secretly despising them as descendants of his enemy. He rewards obedience, encourages worship, and convinces murderers that their victims are being redeemed.
He is capable of regret, particularly regarding the betrayal of his brethren and the loss of his family. That regret never develops into repentance. He uses it to justify greater cruelty and destruction.
By the final confrontation, vengeance has expanded into megalomania. Destroying the Kingdom is no longer enough. Samyaza wants to equal the Creators, rule as a supreme god, and remake the multiverse according to his will.
Status
Samyaza survives the battle at Typhon’s seal.
After the required hour passes, an army of Celestials and several Sentinels arrive to place him under arrest. Samyaza refuses to surrender and kills two Sentinels before the remaining forces overpower him.
He is summoned to the Court of the Creators to answer for crimes against the Celestial Kingdom and humanity. His final judgment and ultimate punishment are not provided.
