Zummabbi

Biography

Zummabbi is a powerful cambion and the ruthless king of Zurrkalla, the city where the wicked are condemned to eternal punishment. His name translates to “suffer,” a fitting title for a ruler who takes tremendous pleasure in torturing both the deserving and the innocent.

Born from human and Malfien blood, Zummabbi inherited the immense strength of the Daelabbi and the phenomenal regenerative abilities of the ancient Rawagia. His mostly human appearance conceals a creature capable of matching the speed of Night-Walkers, surviving fatal injuries, and tearing through entire groups of enemies with his bare hands.

Zummabbi earned his throne through blood and fear after escaping years of torture within a Celestial holding facility. Calm, theatrical, and merciless, he commands an army drawn from several Malfien tribes and rules Zurrkalla with complete authority. The death of his closest friend, Naf’Thiel, places him on a path of vengeance against Zayne and transforms their rivalry into a brutal war for control, blood, and personal retribution.

His features are aged but strongly defined, with a chiseled face, perfectly aligned teeth, short silver hair slicked back from his face, and golden-tanned skin. His height and silver hair are the clearest outward indications that he is something other than human.

Zummabbi frequently wears dark sunglasses. In battle, he equips himself with armor and carries an enormous sword designed specifically for overpowering and disarming his opponents.

Heritage

Zummabbi is a cambion, the offspring of human and Malfien bloodlines. His mostly human appearance comes from his father, while his supernatural abilities come from his mother.

His mother was herself a rare crossbreed. Her father belonged to the Daelabbi tribe, a Malfien bloodline known for immense physical strength. Her mother belonged to the Rawagia, an ancient Malfien race renowned for healing at extraordinary rates and surviving injuries that would destroy most other beings.

The combined Daelabbi and Rawagian blood inherited through his mother gives Zummabbi tremendous strength, resilience, and regenerative power.

Rule of Zurrkalla

Zummabbi rules Zurrkalla, the walled city where the truly wicked are sent following judgment. Those sentenced to Zurrkalla are subjected to eternal punishment under the authority of its Malfien inhabitants.

As king, Zummabbi oversees the torture of the wicked souls ferried into the city. His Malfiens force the condemned to perform degrading and seemingly endless tasks while deceiving them with promises that they may eventually be transferred to Asphodelos.

Zummabbi did not inherit his throne or receive it through appointment. He seized control through fear, violence, and reputation. By the time he set his sights on ruling Zurrkalla, few were willing to oppose him.

Numerous Malfiens from different tribes migrated to Zurrkalla and swore loyalty to him in exchange for residence and protection. His forces include members or descendants of several powerful tribes, including:

  • The Mina, who possess the ability to spew and manipulate fire

  • The Onin, the only known Malfien species possessing wings

  • The Zaqoh, a resilient tribe known for forging weapons and armor

  • The Ilya, who can endure extreme cold and manipulate ice

Abilities

  • Immense physical strength

  • Extraordinary speed

  • Enhanced reflexes

  • Heightened senses

  • Acute motion detection

  • Rapid regeneration

  • Recovery from otherwise fatal injuries

  • Resistance to extreme physical trauma

  • Slowed aging

  • Teleportation

  • Creation and use of interdimensional gateways

  • Advanced hand-to-hand combat

  • Expert swordsmanship

  • Strong tactical awareness

  • Ability to perceive and contend with the speed of Night-Walkers

Zummabbi is fast enough to track and fight vampires whose movements are ordinarily imperceptible to others. His senses are refined enough to detect extremely subtle movements and trace individuals by scent across considerable distances.

His regenerative ability can repair damage to his organs, heart, bones, muscles, and flesh within seconds. He can recover from being impaled through the heart, having his chest and stomach cut open, suffering extreme burns, and receiving damage that would ordinarily cause paralysis or death.

Although exceptionally difficult to kill, Zummabbi is not immortal. Holy substances can damage his flesh, and complete decapitation ultimately proves fatal.

Combat Style

Zummabbi is an aggressive but highly skilled combatant. He possesses enough technical ability to match Zayne through prolonged exchanges of strikes, parries, counters, and evasive movements.

Although he enjoys wild, powerful attacks, he is not merely a brawler. He studies his opponent’s movements, recognizes changes in speed and rhythm, and adjusts his tactics accordingly. His footwork and timing allow him to evade or deflect attacks from opponents operating at supernatural speeds.

His regenerative abilities have also made him dangerously confident. Because he has survived extreme injuries and hostile environments, he willingly accepts damage that would cause most fighters to retreat. This confidence frequently becomes recklessness.

Zummabbi is not above withdrawing when he recognizes a genuine tactical disadvantage. Even with his healing ability, he understands that temporarily losing a limb or sustaining repeated damage can provide an opponent with the opening needed to defeat him.

Weapon

Zummabbi wields an enormous sword measuring approximately seventy-one inches in length. Its extra-broad blade extends beyond the grip, protecting his fingers during combat.

The bottom of the pommel forms a specialized hook designed to catch an opponent’s weapon. Zummabbi uses this feature to trap, redirect, and pull enemy blades away, creating an opening for a counterattack.

The sword’s size complements his extraordinary strength and favors wide, decapitating strikes. He commonly targets the head and neck in an effort to finish his opponent with a single blow.

Personality

Zummabbi is calm, confident, sadistic, prideful, and merciless. He often maintains a contained and composed demeanor, even while making threats or preparing to commit extreme violence.

He derives genuine pleasure from inflicting suffering. While his position requires him to punish the wicked, he also tortures individuals who do not deserve it simply for the thrill. Violence is not merely a tool for him. It is a source of enjoyment and personal fulfillment.

Blood and physical destruction can drive him into an excited frenzy. He delights in tearing enemies apart with his hands, humiliating the defeated, and extending an opponent’s suffering when immediate death would be easier.

Zummabbi also possesses a mocking and theatrical sense of humor. He taunts his enemies, uses sarcasm during battle, and deliberately builds tension before acting. He is flirtatious toward women he finds attractive, particularly Avianna, and enjoys provoking Kasumi because of her openly hostile reaction to him.

Despite his cruelty, he is fiercely protective of his people and does not dismiss their deaths. Insults directed toward his followers are taken personally, and he expects blood to be repaid with blood.

History

Zummabbi was once captured and imprisoned within a Celestial holding facility. He was interrogated and tortured there for several years before breaking free.

When he returned to Hades, he appeared within the nexus covered from head to toe in blood, none of it his own. His escape and the violence surrounding it transformed him into one of the most feared figures in the underworld.

His reputation for brutality preceded his rise to power. When he moved to take control of Zurrkalla, very few dared to contest him.

Known Connections

Naf’Thiel:Zummabbi’s close friend and a member of the Zaqoh tribe. Zummabbi regarded Naf’Thiel as a brother. Naf’Thiel’s death at Zayne’s hands becomes Zummabbi’s primary justification for launching a campaign against Zayne and his followers.

Zayne Dubois D’Entremonte:Zummabbi’s principal enemy. Their conflict begins with mutual hostility between Malfiens and Night-Walkers but becomes deeply personal following Naf’Thiel’s death.

Zummabbi holds Zayne responsible for the deaths of his people and demands blood in repayment. Rather than killing Zayne immediately, he seeks to dismantle everything Zayne values, destroy his authority, take control of the Vampire Council, and leave him with nothing.

Zummabbi later murders Avianna in front of Zayne, transforming their rivalry into a war of personal vengeance. Zayne ultimately defeats and decapitates him during their final battle in Zurrkalla.

Avianna Demopoulos:Zummabbi is immediately attracted to Avianna and repeatedly expresses his interest in her. During the attack against Zayne’s forces, he specifically orders his army not to harm her.

When the Ilya disobey his command and freeze Avianna, Zummabbi initially reacts with anger. He nevertheless exploits the situation to hurt Zayne. After discovering how deeply Zayne cares for her, Zummabbi decapitates Avianna’s frozen body and kicks her severed head across the battlefield in front of him.

Kasumi:Kasumi openly distrusts Zummabbi and finds his presence disturbing. Zummabbi enjoys provoking her and refers to her as “green-eyes.”

Although he surrounds her with his men and allows them to attack her, he is more interested in testing her reaction and entertaining himself than killing her. After she demonstrates her abilities, he allows her to leave and warns her to reconsider her loyalty to Zayne before the coming bloodshed.

Dius:Zummabbi takes Dius into his service after Zayne orders the young Malfien to be discarded. Dius works for him and becomes affiliated with Zummabbi’s forces.

Their relationship is based on employment and alliance rather than clearly expressed affection. Zummabbi nevertheless notices Dius’s disappearance following the battle and demands to know where he has gone.

Athalon Klamath:Zummabbi initially views Athalon as an insignificant mortal. Athalon’s confidence and willingness to confront him earn a degree of interest, though Zummabbi continues to mock his age, mortality, and perceived weakness.

Syn Darkmatter:Syn participates in the assault on Zurrkalla alongside Zayne and Athalon. Zummabbi commands the forces that bombard Syn with explosive ice arrows, leaving the synthetic human completely encased in ice.

Conflict With Zayne

Zummabbi’s war against Zayne is driven by vengeance, pride, and a desire for domination. Naf’Thiel’s death gives him a blood debt to collect, but his hatred extends beyond the loss of his friend. He despises Zayne’s authority, arrogance, and position as ruler of the Vampire Council.

His objective is not simply to kill Zayne. He intends to destroy Zayne’s empire, strip him of everyone and everything he values, seize control of the council, and force the surviving Night-Walkers into submission.

Zummabbi’s murder of Avianna temporarily achieves his desired result by emotionally devastating Zayne. However, it also ensures that Zayne will pursue him without restraint.

During their final confrontation, Zayne consumes divine Ichor, increasing his speed and strength while regenerating his missing arm. Even with this temporary divine power, Zummabbi’s inherited strength and regeneration allow him to continue fighting.

Zayne ultimately pursues Zummabbi deeper into the Zurrkallan compound and returns carrying his severed head.

Role in Blood, Fire, and Fate

Zummabbi enters the conflict as the ruler of Zurrkalla and one of the Malfien lords summoned by Zayne following the escape of Athalon and Azazel. He agrees to assist in hunting them after several Malfiens are killed.

His relationship with Zayne deteriorates into open warfare following the death of Naf’Thiel. Zummabbi gathers a vast army of Malfiens and allied tribes, attacks Zayne’s forces, and attempts to dismantle his authority over the underworld’s vampires.

After personally murdering Avianna, Zummabbi becomes the target of Zayne’s vengeance. Their conflict culminates in the invasion of Zurrkalla, where Zummabbi is finally killed and decapitated.
