Syn Darkmatter

Biography
Syn Darkmatter is a synthetic human from the Deftari Zi metaverse whose artificial intelligence was derived from a digital replication of human consciousness. His pursuit of an unknown spectral being led him into the underworld, where he discovered the inhabitants of Asphodelos living under constant threat. Compelled to intervene, Syn appointed himself guardian of the city and organized its residents into a powerful defensive force.
Protected by a virtually indestructible Deftarian alloy body, Syn possesses extraordinary strength, advanced scanning systems, integrated energy weapons, and the ability to absorb hostile energy and supernatural essence. His self-contained fusion reactor functions like a miniature star, providing him with tremendous power while temporarily restoring the strength of nearby Celestial beings such as Azazel.
Logical, literal, and endlessly curious, Syn believes there is no good or evil, only what is right, justice and injustice. Beneath his mechanical exterior is a developing human consciousness guided by compassion, responsibility, and an unwavering commitment to protecting those who cannot protect themselves.

Syn possesses a fully synthetic humanoid body protected by shiny metallic armor plating. His external components are constructed from a composite Deftarian alloy that is considered virtually indestructible.
Bands of brightly pulsing LEDs run through his droid-locks, leaving trails of light behind him when he moves at high speed. Additional lights within his eyes indicate changes in activity, power, and system condition. His eyes contain holographic apertures that rotate and adjust while scanning organisms, energy signatures, and environmental conditions.
Syn’s voice is deep, smooth, and mechanical, carrying considerable authority when he issues commands. His dense metallic body is far heavier and stronger than his humanoid proportions suggest.
Identity
Syn Darkmatter is a synthetic human equipped with a highly sophisticated artificial intelligence developed from a digital copy of human consciousness. He does not consider himself a simple robot or talking computer. His mind is designed to reason, investigate, learn, retain information, and expand its understanding through experience.
Syn originates from Deftari Zi, a metaverse unfamiliar with Malfiens and the supernatural forces inhabiting Hades. His pursuit of an unknown spectral being led him through a gateway and into the underworld.
Upon arriving in Asphodelos, Syn discovered that its inhabitants were under constant attack and had no effective means of defending themselves. Compelled to intervene, he appointed himself guardian of the city and organized its residents into a defensive force.

Power Source
Syn is powered by a self-contained reactor that fuses hydrogen atoms and converts the resulting reaction into tremendous amounts of energy. The process resembles the fusion occurring within a star, though on a considerably smaller scale.
His core produces an energy signature similar enough to celestial power that its presence temporarily strengthens Azazel and counteracts the energy loss afflicting him.
Syn can supplement his reactor by absorbing external energy. Magical attacks, supernatural essence, and other compatible forms of power can be drawn into his system and redirected for his own use.

Energy Absorption
Syn can absorb energy directed against him and use it to power his systems. When struck by Zayne’s dark magical attack, Syn draws the energy into his weaponized arm rather than allowing it to disable him. The absorbed energy becomes visible within his eyes and is later released as a powerful shockwave.
He can also absorb the essence released by destroyed Malfiens. During the assault on Zurrkalla, Syn vaporizes several gatekeepers and draws their remaining essence into his body, supercharging his systems.
His ability to consume hostile supernatural energy makes him particularly dangerous to creatures that normally become stronger by absorbing the souls or essence of others.
Strength and Durability
Syn’s compact humanoid frame possesses extraordinary mechanical strength. He can overpower Malfiens, throw heavily built opponents, and withstand the combined weight of large crowds without falling.
When Samyaza attempts to crush him beneath his foot, Syn catches the giant Celestial by the heel and holds his leg overhead with one hand while continuing to fire. Samyaza is eventually forced to exert greater strength to overpower him.
Syn remains functional after:
Sustained attacks from Malfiens
Direct exposure to extreme fire
Being carried and attacked by winged creatures
Being completely frozen in supernatural ice
Receiving dark magical attacks
Having his weaponized arm torn from his body
Being repeatedly crushed beneath Samyaza’s foot
Suffering severe damage to his armored frame
His body can endure extreme punishment, but he is not completely immune to damage. Powerful Celestial weapons can penetrate his armor, and the destruction of essential internal components can exhaust his available energy.
Mobility Systems
High-output servos in Syn’s legs allow him to move at blinding speed. His dense metallic feet strike the ground with considerable force while his internal navigation system directs him toward his destination.
Retractable anchoring cleats are installed within his lower legs. When deployed, they dig into the ground and stabilize him against crowds, impacts, energy blasts, and opponents attempting to throw him off balance.
Syn can also vibrate his entire body at an ultrasonic frequency. He uses this ability to shatter the supernatural ice surrounding him after being frozen by Zummabbi’s forces.
Optical and Scanning Systems
Syn’s cybernetic eyes contain an advanced augmented-reality heads-up display known as an AR-HUD. This system assists him with:
Target acquisition
Threat identification
Navigation
Trajectory analysis
Tracking
Heat-signature detection
Detection of multiple light spectrums
Facial recognition
Environmental monitoring
Life-form comparison
Energy-output measurement
His thermal vision allows him to see through dense smoke that completely blinds organic observers.
Syn can scan biological rhythms, physiology, and supernatural energy. His systems can distinguish among humans, vampires, Malfiens, Celestials, and other beings recorded within his database. He can also recognize when a subject does not correspond to any known species, as occurs when he scans Timberwolf.
Analytical Systems
Syn continuously gathers and processes information, even while speaking, fighting, or commanding his forces. His analytical capabilities include:
Knowledge Discovery in Databases algorithms
Resident Database searches
Physiological analysis
Comparative species identification
Predictive trajectory calculations
Threat-level classification
Tactical coordination
Environmental assessment
Simultaneous monitoring of multiple data feeds
Syn’s curiosity is a fundamental part of his programming. Unknown organisms, unexplained energies, and unfamiliar technologies immediately draw his attention. He investigates them not only to identify possible threats, but also to expand his knowledge.
Integrated Equipment
Wrist Keypad:A concealed alphanumeric keypad is built into Syn’s left wrist. A curved protective panel slides open to allow access. He uses the keypad to input coordinates, regulate power levels, activate weapons, and control various integrated systems.
AR-HUD:An augmented-reality interface projected within his field of vision. It provides navigation markers, targeting reticles, threat indicators, tracking data, system warnings, and tactical information.
Directional Lights:Two high-intensity lamps emerge from the sides of his head. The lights can illuminate dark environments or disorient crowds and enemies.
Anchoring Cleats:Retractable stabilizers installed in his lower legs. They allow him to hold his position against overwhelming force.
Restraint Beams:Nonlethal
energy restraints projected from his hands or wrists. The beams wrap around a target like electrified, self-tightening ropes. Resistance causes them to pulse more rapidly and increase their constrictive force.
The output can be adjusted from level one to level ten. At higher settings, the beams can overwhelm the nervous system and immobilize powerful biological targets.
Weaponized Arm:Syn’s left hand can transform into a large, multi-barreled energy weapon. His fingers become rotating barrels that lock into position along his forearm, while an aperture in his wrist exposes a recessed blue energy orb.
The weapon can fire rapid energy rounds, concentrated blasts, restraint beams, and attacks powerful enough to vaporize Malfiens. The system can also absorb hostile energy and supernatural essence.
Communications System:An internal communication device allows Syn to remain in constant contact with his security forces and issue orders across Asphodelos.
Personality
Syn is logical, observant, disciplined, literal, and deeply curious. He frequently corrects Athalon’s misused expressions because he processes the intended language according to its proper meaning rather than accepting Athalon’s altered version.
He does not divide the world into the broad categories of good and evil. Syn believes there is only what is right, justice and injustice. His decisions are guided by this distinction.
Although he initially appears rigid and suspicious, he is capable of reconsidering his conclusions when presented with new evidence. Once Athalon explains that he and Azazel were wrongly imprisoned, Syn recognizes the contradiction between protecting others from injustice and detaining them without fully understanding their circumstances.
Syn possesses a limited but developing emotional capacity. He can display curiosity, astonishment, concern, caution, determination, and a sense of responsibility. His behavior consistently demonstrates compassion even when he describes his actions through logic rather than emotion.
Principles
Syn places the protection of innocent people above personal safety and operational convenience. He refuses to use unnecessary force against the residents of Asphodelos, even when nonlethal solutions make his task more difficult.
He expects the same discipline from his agents. When confronting unknown but potentially dangerous individuals, he orders his forces to use nonlethal weapons and capture them for questioning rather than kill them.
Once a threat is confirmed, Syn acts with overwhelming force and continues fighting until the danger has been neutralized.
Guardian of Asphodelos
Syn commands a security force composed of residents who chose to remain in Asphodelos and defend the city rather than move on to the outer rings of New Eden.
He organizes patrols, monitors the city through surveillance systems, coordinates heavily armored response teams, and assigns agents to defensive positions throughout the different sectors.
His forces recognize him as their commander and refer to him as “Boss.” Under his leadership, they protect the city from Malfiens, Stitchers, evil spirits, and other supernatural threats.
Syn considers Asphodelos his city and its inhabitants his responsibility. He is willing to continue fighting even when surrounded and facing almost certain destruction.
Known Connections
Athalon Klamath:Syn initially arrests Athalon after finding him engaged in a violent confrontation within Asphodelos. Athalon’s absence from the Resident Database and unfamiliar physiology lead Syn to treat him as a possible threat.
Their relationship begins with suspicion, interrogation, and frequent verbal irritation. Athalon mocks Syn’s robotic body and dark-sounding name, while Syn repeatedly corrects Athalon’s malaphors and inaccurate terminology.
Despite their difficult introduction, the two develop mutual trust. Syn assists Athalon during his confrontations with Zayne, joins him in the assault on Zurrkalla, and fights beside him against Samyaza. Athalon comes to regard Syn as a powerful warrior and trusted ally.
Azazel:Syn initially detains Azazel after his systems identify the giant as an unknown and potentially dangerous Celestial being. His curiosity toward Azazel quickly replaces his suspicion.
Syn discovers that the energy produced by his reactor temporarily restores Azazel’s strength. He provides Azazel with a miniaturized Dyson sphere to serve as a portable power source, allowing the weakened Celestial to continue his journey.
Azazel expresses sincere gratitude and addresses him respectfully as Syn Darkmatter.
Zayne Dubois D’Entremonte:Syn initially treats Zayne as a dangerous mystical ruler whose intentions cannot be trusted. During their first direct confrontation, he absorbs Zayne’s dark magical attack and uses its energy against him.
Syn later forms a temporary alliance with Zayne during the assault on Zurrkalla. The two fight together against Zummabbi’s forces, with Syn protecting Zayne from surprise attacks and vaporizing Malfien gatekeepers.
Their alliance is based on a shared objective rather than friendship or complete trust.
The Residents of Asphodelos:Syn serves as their guardian, commander, and defender. Their safety is his primary responsibility.
Samyaza:Syn confronts Samyaza during the final battle. Despite being vastly smaller, he catches the giant Celestial’s foot, continues attacking after losing an arm, and repeatedly places himself between Samyaza and his allies.
Role in Blood, Fire, and Fate
Syn encounters Athalon and Azazel while defending Asphodelos from invading creatures. Unable to locate either man in the city’s records, he detains them for questioning.
After learning of their wrongful imprisonment and the threat posed by Typhon, Syn releases them and helps defend Asphodelos from a Class-A Stitcher. He provides Azazel with a miniaturized Dyson sphere and later assists Athalon in escaping Zayne’s custody.
Syn joins Athalon and Zayne in their assault on Zurrkalla. He fights through the city’s seven gates, absorbs Malfien essence, and survives being completely frozen by the Ilya.
During the final confrontation with Samyaza, Syn continues fighting after his weaponized arm is torn from his body. He intercedes when Samyaza attacks Athalon, placing himself directly in the path of the Celestial’s flaming sword. The blade pierces Syn’s chest, extinguishing the remaining light in his eyes and exhausting the last energy available to his system.
Final Condition
Syn’s body is critically damaged during the battle against Samyaza. His left weaponized arm is torn away, his frame is crushed beneath the Celestial’s foot, and Samyaza’s sword ultimately penetrates his chest.
His eyes go dark after the remaining energy is expended from his system. Whether this represents permanent death, a shutdown, or a condition from which his synthetic consciousness can be recovered remains undetermined.
