Avianna Demopoulos

Biography
Avianna Demopoulos is an ancient Greek Empusa, daughter of Hecate, and loyal huntress of the Vampire Council. Born in Abydos around 676 BC, she is a supernatural predator capable of shapeshifting, flight, possession, seduction, and moving between corporeal and spectral forms.
Behind Avianna’s beautiful redheaded facade lies a winged daemoness with burning hair, serrated talons, Satyr-like legs, and a serpentine tail. Her pheromones can lure mortal men willingly to their deaths, while her paralytic and necrotic saliva leaves those who survive her charm helpless.
Playful, deadly, and deeply sensitive about her natural appearance, Avianna has spent centuries longing to be desired for what she truly is. Zayne is the only man who accepts her without fear or disgust, forming a bond between them stronger than romance and unlike any other relationship in either of their lives.
Her loyalty to Zayne, rivalry with Kasumi, and pursuit of Athalon place her at the center of the growing conflict within the underworld. When war reaches Asphodelos, the fierce huntress makes her final stand against Zummabbi’s Malfien army.

Physical Appearance
Human Guise
Avianna commonly presents herself as a beautiful human woman with soft facial features, long red curls, lightly toned legs, and bare feet. During her first encounter with Athalon, she wears an extremely form-fitting black dress with lace straps and high openings along both sides.
Her human appearance is not her natural body. It is a carefully constructed facade used to attract prey, move unnoticed among mortals, and conceal the form she believes others will find repulsive.
Natural Form
In her natural form, Avianna possesses:
Large, velvety bat-like wings
Elongated arms and fingers
Serrated talons extending from her elbows, knuckles, and fingertips
A long serpentine tail
Satyr-like legs
Hooved feet
Several rows of short, pointed teeth
Hair formed from intense flame
A cybernetic prosthetic leg illuminated by green LEDs
Her fiery hair glows like heated iron and produces enough light to illuminate a large underground chamber. One of her Satyr-like legs has been replaced by a mechanical prosthesis, producing a metallic sound when she moves.
Although Avianna describes this as her true form, Empusae are fundamentally formless beings. Her natural appearance is therefore the shape most closely associated with her identity rather than an unchangeable biological body.
Identity
Avianna is an ancient Greek Empusa, a daughter of Hecate, and the supernatural equivalent of both a vampire and a succubus.
She is a predator who uses beauty, seduction, pheromones, and psychological manipulation to attract mortal men. Once a target falls under her influence, she can persuade him to follow her willingly, even to his death.
Avianna feeds upon human flesh and blood. Consuming blood allows her to preserve her youth, while her succubus nature drives additional physical and emotional cravings.
Despite her effectiveness as a huntress, Avianna’s greatest internal conflict is her longing to be desired in her natural form rather than for the beautiful facade she creates.

Shapeshifting
Empusae do not possess a fixed physical structure in the conventional sense. Avianna can assume whatever appearance best suits her immediate purpose.
She can create a beautiful human facade, return to her recognizable Empusa form, or mimic another person entirely. This allows her to infiltrate guarded locations, deceive targets, and conceal her supernatural identity.
Her transformations are not illusions projected over a permanent body. She physically alters the form through which she interacts with the world.
Spectral Form
Avianna can shift between corporeal and spectral states at will.
In her spectral form:
Her body becomes translucent
She radiates an eerie blue light
Physical attacks pass through her
She can move through walls and other solid objects
She cannot inflict ordinary physical damage
She cannot sustain ordinary physical damage
Magic can still harm her
Avianna uses this ability to escape restraints, avoid weapons, pass through barriers, and survive otherwise fatal falls.
She must return to a corporeal state to use her physical strength, blades, claws, and other tangible attacks. This creates moments of vulnerability if an opponent can predict when she will become solid.
Possession
Avianna can enter and control corporeal bodies. Possession is usually extremely painful and destructive for the host.
During battle, she enters an armored cambion through her spectral form, commandeers its body, and uses it to slaughter members of its own force. When the surrounding Malfiens turn against the possessed body, Avianna abandons it and allows them to destroy one another.
She can also pass through a target while engulfed in flame, leaving the host burning from within.
Seduction and Hypnosis
Avianna’s primary hunting method combines supernatural beauty, physical movement, pheromones, breath, bodily chemicals, and psychological manipulation.
Her influence can:
Cloud a target’s judgment
Reduce mental focus
Produce euphoria
Slow the heart rate
Release norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine
Generate intense attraction
Make suggestions feel voluntary
Convince men to follow her without resistance
Avianna often supplements these abilities with deliberate behavior. She plays vulnerable, pretends to need rescue, exposes portions of her body, maintains prolonged eye contact, and adapts her personality to whatever her target finds appealing.
Her charm is not absolute. Once a victim consciously recognizes that he is being deceived, the effect can collapse like waking from a dream.
Athalon’s resistance is strengthened by the sentient energy within the femur he carries, which enters his mind and inhibits the effects of Avianna’s pheromones and bodily chemicals.
Paralytic and Necrotic Saliva
Avianna’s saliva is both paralytic and necrotic. Contact causes numbness, tingling, progressive loss of control, and tissue damage.
Her kiss is therefore more than an act of seduction. It allows her to chemically incapacitate prey while the victim remains mentally compromised by her charm.
A successful kiss can leave a target entirely under her control and vulnerable to whatever she chooses to do next.
Fire
Avianna produces supernatural fire from her body. Her hair burns continuously in her natural form, while her spectral body can become engulfed in blue flame during combat.
She can use this fire offensively while passing through or possessing enemies. Malfiens entered by her spectral form can erupt in flames through the eyes and mouth.
Her fire provides some resistance against ordinary cold, but it is insufficient to fully counter the supernatural ice of the Ilya.
Strength and Combat Ability
Avianna is deceptively strong. Her smaller stature and seductive appearance conceal enough strength to:
Lift and throw Athalon with one arm
Restrain him by the throat
Overpower a trained soldier
Fight with multiple blades
Redirect heavy strikes
Control larger opponents through possession
Dismember Malfiens in close combat
She combines supernatural strength with speed, flight, intangibility, and centuries of hunting experience.
Zayne considers her a seasoned and highly capable huntress. Her most significant weaknesses in battle come from distraction, emotional sensitivity, and a tendency to prolong encounters she could end immediately.
Weapons
Folding Kukris
Avianna carries a pair of folding kukris concealed within compartments in her cybernetic leg.
When folded, the weapons fit inside the prosthesis. A flick of her wrists unfolds the blades and increases them to approximately three times their stored length.
She uses the kukris for:
Slashing attacks
Stabbing
Crossed-blade defense
Weapon trapping
Close-range combinations
Throwing
One of Avianna’s kukris passes completely through Athalon’s torso, entering through his side and protruding from his back.
Natural Weapons
Avianna’s body also provides several weapons:
Serrated fingertips
Knuckle talons
Elbow talons
Pointed teeth
Hooved legs
Serpentine tail
Paralytic saliva
Necrotic saliva
Supernatural fire
Personality
Avianna is playful, seductive, proud, dangerous, emotionally sensitive, and deeply lonely. She enjoys taunting her prey and frequently treats a hunt as a game rather than ending it efficiently.
Her personality can shift rapidly between:
Flirtatious
Playful
Innocent
Predatory
Furious
Vulnerable
Mocking
Merciless
Avianna is accustomed to men becoming helpless under her influence. Athalon’s resistance intrigues and excites her because it transforms a routine hunt into an unpredictable challenge.
She is also highly sensitive about her appearance. Rejection or insults directed toward her natural form cause disproportionate emotional pain. Her shame can override tactical judgment and push her into a rage.
Her longing to be admired has softened the once-fierce and merciless huntress she had been. Zayne recognizes that this need distracts her and warns that it may eventually become her downfall.
Core Personality Traits

Her insecurity is one of her most exploitable weaknesses. An insult directed toward her natural appearance can disrupt her concentration, provoke an emotional reaction, or cause her to temporarily retreat.
History
Avianna was born in Abydos around 676 BC. As a daughter of Hecate, she existed as a supernatural huntress long before the emergence of many modern vampire clans.
For much of her life, she survived by luring men, feeding on their flesh and blood, and moving through the world behind a succession of beautiful disguises.
Her natural appearance frightened potential companions, condemning her to a life of secrecy and loneliness. Over time, her desire to belong and be genuinely desired softened the once-merciless predator she had been.
First Meeting With Zayne
Avianna meets Zayne approximately a century and a half after he assumes leadership of the Vampire Council.
Zayne encounters her on Earth while searching for blood after resisting his hunger for nearly a week. Avianna, disguised as a beautiful redheaded woman, draws two mortal men into the woods.
She reveals her natural form and devours one man, leaving only bloodied bones. She decapitates the second as he attempts to escape.
Instead of recoiling from her appearance, Zayne watches with fascination. When she begins hiding behind her human guise, he asks her not to conceal herself.
Zayne describes her natural form as magnificent and assures her that beauty comes in many forms. His acceptance immediately distinguishes him from every other man she has encountered.
Avianna introduces herself as a daughter of Hecate, a daemoness, and an Empusa born in Abydos. Their encounter begins a relationship lasting an impossibly long time.
Known Connections
Hecate:Avianna’s mother. Her descent from Hecate connects her to ancient Greek supernatural power and identifies her as more than an ordinary Malfien.
Zayne Dubois D’Entremonte:Avianna’s master, ruler, closest companion, and the only man to fully accept her natural appearance.
She is fiercely loyal to Zayne and formally addresses him as “Master,” “my liege,” and other titles of authority. His acceptance makes her feel seen in a way no other relationship has achieved.
Zayne understands her insecurities and repeatedly encourages her to stop hiding. He considers her special and knows her well enough to recognize how loneliness and the need for affection influence her decisions.
They are not lovers, but their bond is unlike any other relationship in Zayne’s life. Avianna means more to him than anyone else in the mortal realm or underworld.
Athalon Klamath:Avianna is assigned to track and capture Athalon after he escapes from the pits.
She initially approaches him under the guise of another prisoner and plays the role of a vulnerable woman in need of protection. Athalon’s instinct to protect her allows her to remain close while leading him toward a trap.
Avianna becomes sexually intrigued by him and attempts to seduce him before returning him to Zayne. His ability to resist her charm transforms the assignment into a personal challenge.
Their confrontation escalates after Athalon exposes her deception and insults her natural appearance. Avianna ultimately stabs him through the torso with one of her kukris before their struggle sends them falling into the pit.
Although she fails to capture him, she later acknowledges his strength, combat ability, and unusual resilience.
Kasumi:Avianna and Kasumi share a hostile, competitive relationship marked by envy, insults, and mutual contempt.
Avianna envies Kasumi’s natural beauty because Kasumi remains physically beautiful even as a cursed Night-Walker. She resents that Kasumi does not need a false appearance to attract others.
Kasumi understands Avianna’s insecurity and deliberately emphasizes her loneliness to hurt her.
Despite their hostility, Avianna saves Kasumi during the battle against Zummabbi’s forces. She possesses one of the armored cambions closing in on Kasumi and uses its body to destroy the surrounding enemies.
Kasumi responds without gratitude, and their argument immediately resumes.
Zummabbi:Zummabbi is attracted to Avianna and repeatedly flirts with her. During his attack, he specifically orders his forces to spare her.
After the Ilya freeze Avianna against his command, Zummabbi uses her condition to torment Zayne. He decapitates her frozen body and kicks her head across the battlefield.
Role in Blood, Fire, and Fate
Avianna first encounters Athalon while searching the corridors on Zayne’s orders. Disguised as a vulnerable mortal woman, she gains his trust and follows him through the underworld.
Her attempt to seduce and capture him fails when he recognizes her deception and resists her supernatural charm. Their ensuing battle leads them into the pit where Azazel is imprisoned.
Athalon uses Avianna’s enchanted torch to break the seal surrounding Azazel. Avianna escapes in spectral form and returns to Hades’ palace to report her failure.
She later accompanies Zayne and Kasumi to Asphodelos during the confrontation with Athalon. When Zummabbi’s forces attack, Avianna joins the battle and uses her flight, blades, spectral form, fire, and possession abilities against the Malfien army.
After saving Kasumi, Avianna is knocked from the sky and surrounded by the Ilya. She fights through several attackers but fails to notice a hidden archer.
An Ilyan ice arrow passes through her shoulder and abdomen. The supernatural frost spreads through her blood and completely encases her body.
Avianna reaches toward Zayne and cries out his name before becoming a frozen statue. Zummabbi subsequently decapitates her in front of him.
Her death becomes the emotional force driving Zayne’s invasion of Zurrkalla and his eventual killing of Zummabbi.
Final Fate
Avianna’s frozen body is recovered and placed beside Zayne’s throne so that she may permanently sit beside him. Zayne keeps her severed head with her body and mourns her privately.
During Zayne’s final moments after being mortally wounded by Samyaza, a familiar voice calls to him. He recognizes it as Avianna and is told to close his eyes because it is time to bring him home.
